Ducklings – Eagle, PA
Ducklings Early Learning Center is a growing educational and daycare facility for children ranging from nursery care up to pre-K. Some locations also offer a before and after-care program for elementary school children.
Working alongside with Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. and Earth Care we were presented with a narrow site zoned as a C1 ‘Village District’. Facing some unique challenges and to overcome the limits of the site we quickly proposed a two-story educational center building. This would include two stair towers and an elevator for access. Labeled a ‘Village District’ SCULL Architecture was required to follow a set of design standards as set forth by the Township. This meant creating a presentation of a design that met the requirements to the board for approval. With some small ‘tweaks’ we were able to accommodate and meet the needs of the design standards.
Located in Eagle, Pennsylvania this new center includes a nursery area, classrooms, a gymnasium, library, outdoor enclosed play area, and administration offices with faculty service areas. To blend into the vernacular of the surrounding area we utilized a fieldstone stone wainscot, horizontal and vertical siding. Two gables and a horizontal band break were also introduced on each side using different colors to break-up the massing while the ‘black’ metal awnings give the façade a soft bump.
